In July 2006, a legislation on international education initiated by Rep. Kay Khan was passed through Massachusetts legislature, making international education a law in the Commonwealth.

Our Mission StatementThe Massachusetts Initiative for International Studies shares the mission of the Asia Society's National Coalition on International Education in the Schools. Massachusetts Association of School CommitteesThe Massachusetts Association of School Committees will spotlight "Education without Boundaries" featuring global education at their annual conference. Under the umbrella of MIIS education organizations in the state have implemented programs to expand world languages, form international partnerships and establish resource networks. The number of Massachusetts schools offering Mandarin Chinese has doubled in the past three years. Leading school districts in Massachusetts are now taking big steps to get their students ready for work in the global economy of today.
Department of Education Advisory CouncilMIIS, the Department of Education Advisory Council, The China Exchange, Harvard's Center for Middle Eastern Studies and Latin American Studies, BU's Africa Studies Center, AIGWorldSource, EF Education, and Fidelity Investments are all actively assisting this initiative.
