Conference summary and outcomes. The global economy is here to stay. American students must be ready to work in a highly competitive international environment. Every speaker reinforced this message at a conference of over 190 educators, policy makers and business leaders held on Dec 5, 2003 to address the theme "Massachusetts: Education and the Global Economy." Driven by growing national concern about outsourcing of manufacturing and service industry jobs, the conference goal was to promote better understanding about what American students need to know to prosper in today's global economy.
